Our first mini-series is on physical well-being and is perhaps one of the most important forms of self-care you can practice. Now, we aren’t talking about pulling out the lycra, going to the gym every day, and getting sweating, unless you enjoy that, that is. We are talking about the physical body and the healthy changes that can make an impact, change your mindset and help your overall well-being.
Our third installment of physical wellbeing is stretching. No, we aren’t talking yoga, we are talking about static and dynamic stretching to release all your muscle tension!
What Are The Benefits:
• Regular stretching can help refocus and calm the mind.
• Relaxes the body, and removes the elements of daily stresses.
• Improves the body's flexibility, muscle balance, and corrects posture.
• Increases blood flow, oxygen levels, and nutrients to your muscles.
• It burns calories and increases your metabolism.
• Decreases tension headaches.
Here are a couple of common methods to try at home;
This is when you take a stretch and hold the position for 10-30 seconds, and these can be repeated if desired. Below I have listed a small number of static stretches for you to practice.
• Overhead triceps stretch
• Biceps stretch
• Cobra Pose
• Seated Butterfly Stretch
• Head-to-knee forward bend
Remember: Only do what you are able to do, and do not push yourself.
These are a range of active movements, which are typically done between 6-12 minutes, repeating each exercise for 20-30 seconds. We have popped a small selection of dynamic stretches below for you to try out.
• Jumping Jacks
• Walking Knee Hugs
• Arm Circles
• Side Shuffle
• Leg Swings
Well, that’s all from me today! Formula 1 is on, so I have ventured upstairs, where I will be enjoying a nice long self-care pamper. I will be starting my forward-thinking journal, followed by a nice soppy film and then a nice long hot bubble bath, enjoying my Cleanse Edit goodies! I hope you have enjoyed this little minute to yourself with your cuppa, and are looking forward to giving these stretches a try.
Happy self-care Sunday everyone!
